A Safe Place, A Healing Place

In the early going, a mentor told me to look up the word “vocation.” Vocation comes from a Latin root, “vocatio,” meaning summons, or to call as in calling. Later, I came across the words of the author Fredrick Buechner who described vocation as “the place where our deep gladness meets the world’s deep need.”

I have been providing therapy for individuals and couples for over thirty years. It is deeply gratifying to journey with people, meet them in their deep needs, and help them move out of their depression and anxiety and into a deeper peace and freedom, a greater sense of wholeness. I have witnessed people make hard, life-changing decisions, step into their darkest fears, choose self-sacrifice for a greater good, and close and lock the doors that led to rooms of pain and trauma. Being a therapist has stretched me and taught me new dimensions of empathy, forgiveness, courage, and grace. This work has brought times of deep gladness and I’m grateful. This is my vocation.

OUR SERVICES

TESTIMONIALS

Eight years ago, our marriage was in a very precarious state. We had tried traditional marriage counseling with no positive results and were becoming increasingly estranged from each other. Soon after being referred to Steven, however, our situation began to improve. We found him to be patient, caring, knowledgeable and empathetic. He provided us with insights into our issues, and after several months of regular meetings with him, we were back on track. We now feel that, being armed with those insights, we are better able to communication and that our relationship is stronger than ever.

Past Client

Steve Fringer is one of those natural, intuitive listeners and healers, although he has clearly also had extensive training. His calm demeanor and caring heart make it easy for one to talk and open up in a safe environment. He is a respectful listener, allowing one to weave your story with little interruption and constant support. His comments and observations are extremely helpful. He gives you things to ponder and simple reminders to keep you focused. While he does not preach or advocate a specific faith, he is comfortable listening to your spiritual reflections. He is also good at helping you see how your faith, or inner strength, or innate goodness, can help you heal. I am grateful for his insights, guidance and support. He helped me immensely and I still recall his simple but insightful phrases to help me find the light when the darkness threatens to return.
