About
Meet Your Therapist
Steven Fringer, M.Div., LMFT
In the early going, a mentor told me to look up the word “vocation.” And I did. Broken down, vocation comes from a Latin root, “vocatio,” meaning summons, or to call, as in calling. I have been providing therapy for individuals and couples for over twenty-five years. It is deeply gratifying to journey with people and help them move out of their pain and suffering and into a deeper peace and freedom, a greater sense of wholeness. I have witnessed people making hard, life-changing decisions, step into their darkest fears, choose self-sacrifice for a greater good, and close and lock the doors that led to rooms of pain and trauma. Being a therapist has stretched me and taught me new dimensions of empathy, forgiveness, courage, and grace. I’m convinced I’ve learned far more from my clients than they have from me. And I am grateful. To me, this is my vocation, my calling.
I am a graduate of McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago and ordained in the PC(USA). Following seminary I received clinical training at the Pastoral Counseling Center of Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, IL and the Family Therapy Training Institute at Family Services in Milwaukee. I am a Clinical Member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (AAMFT). I am licensed in WI as a Marriage and Family Therapist.
